Humanergy is composed of some focused, competitive folks. For many years we’ve been having a lot of fun as we combine wellness with healthy competition. Our most recent initiative divided us into two teams to set and then achieve exercise goals. Each person set their own time goal for exercise, but everyone had to achieve at least 2.5 hours per week of moderate to high physical activity (the minimum recommendation by the Mayo Clinic).

Though we tend to use activity-based competitions, there are many ways to bond your team and boost wellness. Healthy cooking contests, company Olympic games and paid gym memberships are other ways to encourage people to take care of themselves. Many companies support moving more by providing stand-up desks or making walking meetings part of their daily routine. Organizations can encourage people to exercise for charity for a specific cause (e.g., asthma, cancer) or using apps like stickk.com or charitymiles.org.

Regardless of how you do it, make sure that your employees get cleared by the doctors to exercise. Then, get moving. Your team will be happier, healthier and more productive.
