When I tell a friend or colleague that I’ll do something, I make sure to do it. I take my commitments to others seriously, and when I fall short, I take action to ensure that it won’t happen again.

That’s why this article struck such a chord. It’s about taking promises to yourself as seriously as you do promises to others. Whether it’s self-care or pushing myself to learn something new, I struggle to take commitments to yours truly seriously.

I hereby pledge to under-promise and over-deliver on my promises to myself, but hopefully not this one. Do unto myself what I would do to others.

“Self-compassion is simply giving the same kindness to ourselves that we would give to others.” – Christopher Germer
