Dan McCarthy’s post, Can a manager be a coach, is a breath of fresh air! He points out the reality that so many bosses consider every interaction with a direct report to be a coaching session. What they are, too often, is a “let-me-tell-you-how” conversation.

McCarthy does a great job of articulating how to coach, starting with letting go of the illusion that you have all the answers. (My second favorite concept is “take the time to coach.” Sounds simplistic, but I know I often don’t feel I have the time to make it happen.)

Go ahead, read this post. Your direct reports will thank you for it. Plus, you may be amazed by what they can do, and what you can learn from them!
