John Barrett
John works with managers and executive leaders who want to maximize the impact of their leadership choices.
As a veteran facilitator and coach, he has worked for twenty years with leaders and teams in Fortune 500 companies, government, healthcare, education and service organizations. His primary emphasis has been with clients in the automotive and packaged goods industries including customer service, engineering, HR, logistics, and production.
John works with organizational leaders to leverage their strengths, navigate their weaknesses and successfully influence their peers. He guides cross-functional teams in their journey of interdependence while creating accountability with realistic goals.
Originally from Canberra, Australia, John is a former Outward Bound management development and research coordinator who facilitated individual and team growth in the Australian Outback. He is also the former director of program services of Starr Commonwealth’s EverGreen Center for Personal and Professional Development, an organization with a legacy of character development and leadership.
John is co-author of 50 DOs for Everyday Leadership: Lessons Learned the Hard Way (So You Don’t Have To) and What Great Teams Do Great: How Ordinary People Accomplish the Extraordinary.. He has an honors degree in psychology from the Australian National University.
John believes in integrity, courage and a strong duty of care for his family, clients and the Humanergy team. One of his favorite quotes is “Let your life speak.” Because he knows a key to successful leadership is self-awareness, he often recommends the book Leadership and Self-Deception (Arbinger Institute) to his clients.
