The pace of life today means that leaders are almost always “on.” Carving out time for family, friends and self-care often takes a backseat to pressing issues. Many in business today are turning to meditation as a way to unplug, refocus and increase self-awareness.
Why take time from your busy life to meditate? The American Psychological Association says that boosting mindfulness (moment-to-moment awareness) through meditation:
- Decreases depression
- Decreases rumination (compulsively focused attention on some aspect of life)
- Increases working memory
- Decreases stress
- Increases focus
