Think of the last meeting you attended. Was it a snooze-fest, or was there keen interest? Excitement, perhaps? Patrick Lencioni says that meetings should be intense, or they shouldn’t be happening at all.

How can you transform your meetings from blah to wow?

Productive friction. Talk about the elephant in the room. Be direct, honest and respectful, and encourage spirited debate around the issues that really matter.

Fast pace. Set a time limit for issues, and facilitate the discussion to be on target and moving at the right clip.

About the right stuff. For goodness sake, don’t just meet to talk about something, or because it’s a monthly meeting and the time has come. Meet when you need to make a decision, engage creativity, build team functioning or get aligned on something important. Read these three great reasons not to have a meeting.
